- How do I use the Tunebook?
- This site is divided into separate sections for each type of tune: jigs, reels, hornpipes etc. Click on a link in the menu to the left to go to that page. Tunes are listed alphabetically.
- How do I see the music?
- Once you find a tune you want, click on its name to view a page showing the sheet music and the abc version of the tune. Above the sheet music are links to the abc text, png grahpic, pdf page and midi sound file of the tune.
- I can't read music, I need the abc file
- If you prefer to see the abc text file, click on the abc link.
- What is abc?
- The tunes in this Tunebook are stored as abc files. This format is a text based way of writing tunes down. You can read more about the abc standard on Chris Walshaw's page. There is also an excellent tutorial available produced by Steve Mansfield here
- I want to hear the tune
- The midi link for each tune provides a very simple, synthesized version of the tune. The quality is not great, nor is the feel of the tune but at least it can give you an idea of what the tune sounds like in general
