The tunes area I would imagine following the lines of thesession.org. Tunes can be grouped by style such as jig, reel and waltz. abc notation can be posted directly onto a tune page and placing (:music:) immediately before, and (:musicend:) immediately after the abc code. This will provide a preview of the sheet music (one page only) and links to download the abc, midi or pdf versions of the tune automatically on the final page.

One obvious problem that comes with the ability for anyone to edit anything is that there will be a tendancy for people to see a version of a specific tune and try to "correct" it to the way they play it or the way "so and so" plays it on their CD. Rather than have an endless battle over whose version wins I would suggest that we develop a "goal" we wish to achieve for the pages of an individual tune. First of all we need the tune, who wrote it, where it comes from, but more than that it would be nice to have a little history of that particular version. By placing multiple, but different, versions of the same tune on the page it would be a way of seeing regional variations in common tunes and styles of play.

I am certainly no expert on the cataloguing and history of tunes so please add to this to put forward what you think should be the aim of the tunes section.

I would strongly recommend that editors be encouraged to add an N: line in their tunes specifying which version of abc notation they have used, i.e. 1.6, 2.0 or ABCPlus.

I have some songs I would like to add, but they are in abcPlus notation. Before adding anything, can anybody tell me, does the system accept abcPlus, or which version of abc should I be using? reply by email please, to: novawoman@hotmail.com asap. Thank you.

The script that creates the pdf, graphic and midi files is based on the latest version of abcm2ps and abc2midi, both of which work with abcplus I believe. If it doesn't work drop me a comment and I see what I can do

I would just like to thank those who set-up and maintain this excellent music reference system. Go Dté Shibh Slán.

Would it be possible to add some way to discuss / comment on tunes? I wanted to comment on the transcription of the Ressikan folk tune that Rachel put up (the performance in ST:TNG was breathtaking!) but felt that my gushing admiration wouldn't be entirely appropriate on the tune page itself. Thanks.
