Instructions for adding a new tune

Tunes can be added to the site using abc music notation. To add a new tune to the site do the following:

  1. Click on the Edit tab at the top of the page (you will need to be logged in before you can edit
  2. Add a link for the tune at the top of this page, leaving off any leading The, A, An etc
  3. Text for the tune link should look like * [[TuneNameWithoutTheLeadingThe]]
  4. Check the page using the Preview button and then when everything looks right click Save
  5. Now you have a new link to the tune in red to indicate the page has not yet been created
  6. Click on the new link to edit the tune
  7. Paste the abc code for the tune and put (:music:) on the line before and (:musicend:) on the line after
  8. Click save and your new tune should show up with sheet music and links to the abc, pdf and midi

This is the place to create a link to your new tune. Edit this page and at the bottom of the page add a link that looks like this. Capitalize each word in the tune title.

The square brackets create a link to a new page for your tune and the four "~" add your signature to show who added the tune and when. Save the page and then click on the Red link you have just created and then paste in your abc code. Add (:music:) one the line before the abc and (:musicend:) on the line after. Save the page and you will have the sheet music and links to the abc, pdf and midi versions of the tune. Make sure you add an R: field to the abc to indicate what kind of tune it is ie. R:waltz or R:reel or R:slipjig. That way the tune will show up in the automatic page listings for each tune type.

Note I think this should be a simple form with a box for the abc notation and a submit button. The form should then take the title, remove any leading The, A, An etc, Create a Tune.Title page with the abc surrounded by the (:music:)tags and put a link at the bottom of the page with the authors signature BigCheese February 24, 2007, at 09:39 PM
